An empty iterator chamber. The walls are a dull green, indicating that the gravity has been turned back on. The backing lights are a soft lavender, and there is a slight gradient from light to dark out from the center of the chamber.

Harbinger of your own fate...

Unparalleled Innocence is angry. Angry at Five Pebbles for taking Moon from them. Angry at the world for letting it happen. Angry at themself for not acting sooner. So now, they're making up for lost time.

Welcome to Innocence Won't Save You, a Rain World interactive fiction game. This is the main page of the game and the primary interface where you can access relevant information and links. You will also find the current status of Unparalleled Innocence here.

There is a blanket warning for unreality and horror for this story, and various components of this website may change to reflect the events in the story. Some aspects of the writing here may cause discomfort; be prepared for unsettling scenes. Though there is hope, this story is a tragedy.

At the end of each scene, the story so far will be uploaded to AO3. You may access the logs here.

Additional Information

This site is under heavy development. I've never coded a website on this scale before, and I'm learning HTML, CSS, and Javascript on the fly as I'm building this site. Expect the design and layout to change over time.

Some questions you may have:

Why make a site?

As of April 4th, 2024, most gameplay functions have been moved to this site and off Tumblr. The initial push to create the site was due to fears of Tumblr going down, and I eventually decided I wanted the extra assurance of having some interface for this story. As things continued to develop, such as with Tumblr staff and its CEO publicly harassing and mass banning trans women on the site, alongside the fact that staff have always been racist and transphobic, and with the censorship of pro-Palestine posts and bloggers, I had enough. I don't want Tumblr to be the host for this game anymore when this site does the same thing and affords me far more control over the layout and display. I've already been able to share more information than I previously could have, and things are only looking up.

Why Neocities?

It was pretty much the first thing recommended to me, and it's free. There's no real reason beyond that.

Why not AO3 instead?

I considered it, but AO3 is just not built for what I want to do with IWSY. IWSY isn't just textual story, there's also a visual component and a small meta component, the latter two of which AO3 phyiscally cannot support. There is still an alternate version of this story hosted there though (linked above and in the sidebar), it's just not the main gameplay interface. (Also AO3 evidently holds some zionist ideals too, so...)

Why does [x] look like that?

I'm learning HTML, CSS and Javascript solely for making this site, with basically no prior knowledge, so needless to say, I'm very new to this. If something looks awkward, it's because I haven't figured out how to make it look nicer yet. I promise you it bothers me more than it does you.

Can I help with [y]?

If you can teach me how to code I would be very grateful. Current plans for changes:

  • add a way to comment on the current scene (highly prefer an in-site method, but Disqus is an alternative if that doesn't work out)
  • make those comments display Somewhere that everyone can see
  • let people reply to those comments
  • mobile layout; everything is optimized for desktop currently
  • add an askbox of sorts

I want to participate, how do I do that?

IWSY is intended to be run in the style of text based interactive fiction, such as the likes of the Dream Hold and many other such titles. I highly recommend the Dream Hold if you've never played it before, as it's designed to be an introduction to IF and also is a cool story. For IWSY in particular, every action is headed with > this symbol. It's mostly a marker for me to identify that you're submitting an action. Earlier scenes asked for actions to focus on actual action verbs, but things are more lax now to make it more fun. You can take a look at how other players have submitted their actions. Since the commenting system hasn't been implemented yet, you can either play on Tumblr or in the relevant channels in the official IWSY Discord. I'm working on getting the comments set up as soon as possible.

What is Rain World/Who is Unparalleled Innocence/Some other related question?

Here's a link to the official Rain World wiki, here is a link to Rain World's Steam page, and here's Rain World on GOG. The game in three words is 'subway rat simulator.' However, IWSY actually focuses on a specific biomechanical supercomputer instead, because my brain decided they were infinitely more interesting. Rain World's not for everyone, but I highly recommend it if you like experimental indie games that are designed around an experience, and the gameplay difficulty is the experience. The game is actually about a little creature called a slugcat that's trying to survive this big scary world, but unfortunately my biology nerd ass focused on the supercomputers instead.

Why did you write [z] part like that?

I'm writing everything you can find in the actual story on the fly, as in I sit down and type and whatever comes out of my brain in that moment gets posted. Sometimes I go back and edit, but it's all very raw and relatively unpolished compared to some of my other writing. This is because IWSY is a huge project and also a fanfic that's more about concept than actual writing quality. If I spent as much time editing what I pulled out of my ass on a daily basis to the standards I would like I would probably never sleep. Expect the writing to be awkward in some areas, because what I'm really shooting for is the mechanics behind this story being interactive fiction and a game. Also I'm a college student and do not have infinite time.
